The 'Turbine Made' initiative builds on ACCIONA's efforts to repurpose decommissioned wind turbine blades, which have included to date a collaboration with European fashion brand El Ganso to create sneakers featuring recycled blade material in their soles. ACCIONA Energía has partnered with Deakin University in a ground-breaking project: the ASCEND solar car - that will participate in the esteemed Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in 2023. This international event brings together teams from around the world, challenging students to design, build, and race solar-powered vehicles across a demanding 3,000-kilometer route spanning from Darwin to Adelaide. The World Solar Challenge serves as a platform to showcase the latest advancements in solar technology while advocating for sustainable transportation solutions. Participants face a multitude of challenges, navigating diverse terrains and overcoming unpredictable weather conditions, all while striving for exceptional speed and efficiency. In a dedicated effort to combat deforestation and promote environmental sustainability, ACCIONA Energía has embarked on a mission to plant 10,000 trees annually for five years. This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Colac Otway Landcare Network, in the location of Kawarren, just 40 kilometres from the Mt Gellibrand Wind Farm. These trees are part of a larger global initiative by ACCIONA to plant 1 million trees. You can find out more about this in our Sustainability Master Plan. This initiative further solidifies our commitment to sustainability and reflects our dedication to preserving our planet and creating a greener future. The Landcare group will assist us in planting and monitoring these trees, ensuring their long-term growth and environmental impact.
