ACCIONA is the proud owner and operator of the Kwinana Energy Recovery facility – Australia’s first operational energy recovery facility.
The Kwinana Energy Recovery facility will transform up to 460,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste each year into 38 megawatts of baseload renewable electricity – enough to power more than 55,000 homes.
Each year the facility will recover more than 10,000 tonnes of metals from incinerator bottom ash, ensuring valuable materials are recycled and re-used. Such as Australia’s first car park built using material sourced from an energy recovery process, demonstrating the value of the plant’s contribution to the circular economy.
During its construction, the project supported more than 3,500 jobs and will provide around 40 permanent skilled positions, along with numerous apprenticeship and graduate opportunities throughout its 25-year operational life.
This facility is a cornerstone of Western Australia’s transition to a circular economy.
By converting waste into energy, we are reducing landfill dependency, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and creating valuable by-products such as recycled metals and aggregate for road construction.
Every tonne processed at the facility represents a step towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.
The Kwinana Energy Recovery Facility not only provides an alternative to landfill and powers homes but also demonstrates how innovation and responsibility can go hand in hand.
