ACCIONA proudly celebrated six years of partnership with Surfing Australia at the iconic Australian Boardriders Battle, held on the 12th &13th of April at Burleigh Heads. This year, we brought something special to the event, blending innovation, sustainability, and the spirit of surfing through our Turbine Made Surfboard.
In collaboration with surfing legend Josh Kerr and his brand Draft Surf, ACCIONA crafted 10 unique surfboards made from a retired wind turbine blade. These Turbine Made boards symbolise our commitment to circular economy principles while resonating with the surfing community’s passion for the ocean.
At the event, ACCIONA’s activation zone drew crowds eager to explore our leadership in renewable energy, infrastructure and water solutions. Attendees engaged with interactive displays showcasing the Turbine Made surfboard and learned about the innovative process behind it.
The activation area also included hydration and misting stations, allowing spectators to rehydrate and cool off while taking in the action on the big screen. It also allowed us to showcase our water solutions, including the Adelaide Desal Plant, now pumping out 300 million litres of drinking water daily to protect the state against drought. To amplify the excitement, we launched a competition giving fans a chance to win one of these exclusive boards, sparking enthusiasm among surf enthusiasts. And the large crowds couldn’t get enough of our ACCIONA and Ride The Wind branded merch, with it snapped up in record time!
The weekend was electrified by the presence of our brand partner, Josh Kerr, who competed for the Snapper Rocks BC. Kerr’s dynamic performance helped propel his club to the grand final, captivating spectators and adding to the thrill of the Battle. Snapper Rocks narrowly missed the win as North Shore Boardriders claimed the championship in a fiercely contested showdown.
The event culminated in a memorable awards ceremony, where ACCIONA announced the winner of the Turbine Made surfboard competition. A passionate surfer, Ben Walker was presented with the first-ever Turbine Made board, marking a historic moment for ACCIONA and Surfing Australia.
This unforgettable weekend underscored ACCIONA’s partnership with Surfing Australia and our shared commitment to sustainability and community engagement. The Turbine Made campaign not only showcased our innovative approach to renewable energy but also celebrated the vibrant culture of Australian surfing.
