ACCIONA, as part of the ActivUs Alliance, have been awarded the design and pre-construction contract for the main works package on the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project.
ACCIONA alongside CPB Contractors, UGL, SMEC and WSP will work in partnership with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and Queensland Rail to progress design and project planning activities.
The Project will deliver more frequent and reliable train services between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and contribute to regional growth by unlocking critical network capacity.
It will deliver a sustainable transport solution that will improve connectivity and help prepare for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
ACCIONA CEO for Australia and New Zealand Bede Noonan said ACCIONA brings local expertise combined with global experience to deliver sustainable infrastructure solutions that have a positive impact on society.
“Our wealth of knowledge and experience, locally and globally, will contribute to the delivery of a solution that will transform the way people travel, enable stronger connection across communities and create a legacy for the people of Queensland.”
ACCIONA Queensland Regional Director, David Balmer, reiterated “ACCIONA’s highly skilled local team will draw on experience in delivering complex infrastructure Projects, in particular a wealth of knowledge and experience in elevated station structures as well as precast concrete solutions and complex geotechnical conditions. Our team focusses on delivery that is safe, certain and minimises disruption to customers and the surrounding community.”
Works include:
- An upgrade from two to four tracks from Kuraby to Beenleigh, including associated civil works
- Accessible station upgrades including park ‘n’ ride, kiss ’n’ ride, and bus stop upgrades
- Removal of level crossings
- Upgraded rail systems and enabling works for European Train Control System (ETCS)
- Modification of the local road network and improved walking and cycling connections along the 20-kilometer project corridor
- Integration of the project with adjacent construction packages and into the existing network.
The Alliance will now commence the design process and project planning activities and undertake further site investigations to ensure this key infrastructure investment is completed ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
