The Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) Women's Network has marked a significant milestone, more than doubling its membership since its launch during Women in Construction Week in earlier this year.
The latest gathering brought together 80 women from across the project, showcasing the growing strength of female representation in construction.
From executive leaders to recent tunnelling crew recruits, the network creates vital connections in an industry where women represent just 12% of the workforce.
"I haven't felt that connected to women since high school," remarked one participant after the inaugural event, highlighting the network's impact on professional solidarity.
The September meeting emphasised authenticity as a core value.
Participants shared powerful messages of encouragement, including the reminder to "be unapologetic about who you are" and that "your unique perspective is your strength."
Transport for NSW Delivery Director Dean McCallister reinforced the importance of male allyship in the industry.
He stressed the responsibility to address inappropriate behaviour, noting that "the standard you walk past is the standard you accept."
The Women of Western Harbour Tunnel network events serve as more than just a social gathering - it's a platform for mentorship, career advancement, and professional advocacy.
These connections often prove instrumental in shaping career trajectories and fostering leadership development.
This initiative aligns with broader industry efforts to increase female representation in construction, particularly significant given the current decline in women CEOs among FTSE-listed companies.
At ACCIONA, we are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion within the construction industry.
