On 22 November 2024, ACCIONA Energía celebrated 15 years of operations of its Waubra Wind Farm, located north-west of Ballarat in Victoria. Operational since 2009, the wind farm was once ACCIONA Energía’s largest in Australia, with 128 wind turbines capable of producing 192 megawatts of electricity.
The event was designed to be inclusive and family-friendly, and began with an art show featuring pieces made by the children of Waubra Preschool, showcasing their creativity and imagination. More than 150 people gathered for the movie night, including local residents, families, and ACCIONA Energía team members.
Despite the scorching daytime heat, the weather in the evening was perfect for an outdoor movie night. The event had snacks and treats for everyone including Lions Club-hosted BBQ, ice creams, slushies and snacks. The children really enjoyed the face painting and games on the footy field. Before the movie started, they had their popcorn, slushies and beanbags ready to watch Shrek—a classic family film.
The event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local community, celebrate the success of the Waubra Wind Farm, and create lasting memories. “Events like this highlight how renewable energy projects can do more than reduce carbon footprints—they can also enhance and strengthen the communities they call home,” remarked Erin Mulquiny, Community and Stakeholder Engagement Benefits Lead for ACCIONA Energía.
ACCIONA Energía would like to thank everyone who joined in the celebration and looks forward to continuing its partnership with the Waubra community for many years to come.
