Across many of ACCIONA’s projects we are working with primary and high schools to encourage students to consider pursuing careers in STEM fields or in trades.

ACCIONA is inspiring the next generation through innovative STEM and trades education programs, working closely with local schools to create meaningful engagement opportunities that showcase potential career pathways.

Our infrastructure projects serve as real-world classrooms, offering comprehensive mentorship and work experience programs specifically designed for secondary school students working towards their completion certificates.

These mentorship initiatives pair students with ACCIONA experts who provide guidance and support, with a particular focus on encouraging young women to pursue tertiary education in STEM fields.

Students gain hands-on experience through project-based placements across various departments, including project delivery, communications, environmental management and human resources.

At the heart of ACCIONA's educational outreach are interactive sessions where industry experts visit schools to demonstrate how their projects positively impact local communities.

These visits often spark creativity, with students creating artwork that is later proudly displayed on site hoardings for the community to enjoy. The Southern Program Alliance has embraced this approach, featuring student-created murals now “hanging in galleries” in Cheltenham, Mentone and Parkdale.

The Southern Program Alliance has also developed innovative ways to introduce complex engineering concepts to young minds. Students participate in hands-on activities like the popular trenching workshop, where they use popsicle sticks and sand to simulate piling techniques—bringing geotechnical engineering to life in an accessible way.

These practical demonstrations often mark students' first meaningful encounter with engineering principles.

Understanding the importance of real-world exposure, ACCIONA arranges supervised site visits where students can observe construction works from safe vantage points. Project staff guide these tours, explaining key features and enthusiastically answering questions from curious students.

Major projects such as Western Sydney International Airport and the Gawler Rail Electrification Project Alliance regularly welcome school groups, showcasing the scope of their operations and highlighting the exciting possibilities in STEM and construction careers.

This educational partnership extends beyond student engagement, ensuring that school staff and parents remain well-informed about project developments and potential disruptions, while fostering valuable relationships between stakeholders and project teams.
