Francisco Goya

Francisco Goya (1746-1828) is historically one of Spain’s most well-known artists, operating in the late 18th and 19th century and is considered to be one of the first truly modern artists. He is famous for being a visionary for his time, using his complex imagination to create artworks that made comment on the nature of humanity.

Goya: Drawings from the Prado Museum

With shared Spanish heritage and the same vision to build a better world, there were many synergies between the exhibition and our company. ACCIONA is excited to continue our long-standing relationship with the NGV and support the arts.

The exhibition features 44 paper drawings and etchings by Goya, with ranging themes of humour, violence and surreal fantasy that either explore different elements of human nature and society or offer Goya’s visions for the future. This exhibition is the largest group of Goya’s drawings ever to be seen in Australia.

The exhibition was due to be open to the public from the 25 June to 3 October, however the COVID-19 lockdown in Melbourne has seen the Gallery shut during a large portion of this period. Parts of the exhibition can be viewed here in a video uploaded by the NGV.

ACCIONA staff were recently treated to a special curated live virtual tour, which showed the drawings and exhibition design. The drawings shown were some of Goya’s more sardonic and darker pieces of work. The NGV staff also explained their use of light and darkness in the exhibition space to compliment the light and darkness of Goya’s works, as well as illuminate a journey for visitors through the exhibition.

ACCIONA's Partnership with the NGV

Acciona Energía Managing Director, Brett Wickham, was invited to speak at the 2021 NGV Sponsor Dinner in July.

“This is our first partnership with the NGV, and we are so proud to be associated with the gallery for this outstanding exhibition.

“This exhibition represents a fantastic opportunity for us to bring together ACCIONA’s Spanish roots through Goya’s unique vision as it speaks directly to the modern day.

“At ACCIONA, we too believe in striving towards a better future. We want to encourage awareness about sustainability in a way that resonates with authorities, society and businesses.”

ACCIONA has been grateful to be involved in this exhibition and looks forward to continue working with the NGV in the future.
