Constantly challenging ourselves to deliver more sustainable solutions across our business is at the heart of how ACCIONA operates and inspires us all every day.

The recognition by the industry this year for the outstanding efforts of so many just reinforces what we already know - our team are leading the way in how they are delivering solutions that are contributing to a more sustainable future.

It is no surprise that 2024 has been one of ACCIONA’s most successful years for industry awards. Our success in delivering sustainable infrastructure has been recognised and celebrated by leading industry associations and bodies.

The Rookwood Weir Project was a standout for the year, winning multiple awards including the country’s most prestigious industry award, the Australian Construction Achievement Award. It also won the Queensland Major Contractors Association’s (QMCA) CBUS Super Project of the Year over $100M Award and the Engineers Australia Excellence Award for Project of the Year in Queensland.

The project’s success is attributed to not only its quality in construction but also its positive contribution to the local community and environment.

“The project introduced groundbreaking features like an innovative fish lock and dedicated turtle passages tailored to local wildlife, alongside significant reductions in excavation and an exemplary use of sustainable materials,” said Project Alliance Manager, Tino Ferrero. “This award reflects our team’s commitment to pioneering sustainability in infrastructure. Thank you to everyone who played a part in achieving this award.”

Our team in Queensland also won the QMCA’s Ian Harrington Collaboration Award for the Bruce Highway Upgrade: Caboolture-Bribie Island Road to Steve Irwin Way Project.

Winning Victoria Project of the Year Award at the Weld Australia’s Welding Excellence Awards was a highlight for ACCIONA’s Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) team. This specialist business integrates advanced technology to deliver custom solutions demonstrated by this successful outcome with a unique and complex scope of mechanical and piping works at a water-based paint manufacturing facility.

In August ACCIONA, in collaboration with Australian Spatial Analytics, was presented with the Geospatial Council of Australia (Victoria) Workforce Development & Inclusion Award, recognising our efforts in increasing workforce participation among young, neurodivergent adults and fostering a new generation of geospatial and engineering professionals.

Our M80 Ring Road Completion project took out our final award in Australia for the year, winning the Corporate Partner Excellence Award at the 2024 Victoria Aboriginal Business Awards for its leadership in procurement and collaboration with Kinaway-certified Indigenous suppliers.

Across the Tasman Sea, our New Zealand team took home major awards for the Pūhoi to Warkworth Motorway Project from Civil Contractors New Zealand Construction (CCNZ). Including the Excellence Award for a project over $100 million, the Category E award for projects valued at over $50 million, and the Hynds Supreme Award at the Auckland CCNZ Hynds Construction Awards.

It’s not just our projects that have been successful this year. Two of our extraordinary and upcoming people have also won prestigious awards.

Environment Engineer, Walentina Gonzalez, was named the NAWIC QLD Government Award for Sustainability & Energy winner for her contribution to driving environmental and sustainability strategies, systems, management plans, procedures, and tracking tools.

Additionally, Engineering Manager, Curtiss Hood, won the Emerging Rail Specialist Award at the Australasian Rail Industry Awards. Curtiss took home the award for his Key Switch Isolation method which significantly boosts safety by minimising the risk of human error at level crossings.

Lastly, Victoria O’Halloran was named Tradeswoman of the Year at NAWIC WA Awards for Excellence for her role breaking barriers on ACCIONA’s Armadale Line Upgrade.

Many other ACCIONA projects and individuals were also nominated, commended, or shortlisted as finalists for industry awards across multiple sectors and categories. And all of this cannot be achieved without the collaboration we have between our partners and clients. ACCIONA is immensely proud of what the team delivers across all our operations every day.
